Austin & I enjoyed a great weekend getaway to Kansas City. We left the kids with Grandpa & Grandma Lorenzen on Friday night and headed south, deeper into the heat and humidity. We stayed at the Courtyard Marriott on the Country Club Plaza thanks to Austin's hotel rewards points.
On Saturday we did major shopping. We started at the gigantic Nebraska Furniture Mart. We got a new chair (see picture) for the living room to replace the one splitting at the seams and looked at other things for ideas in the future. Then we went to a large mall in Overland Park. Austin got fitted for a new business wardrobe at Men's Warehouse and Macy's. I got something fun off the clearance rack at Ann Taylor Loft. We ate dinner at P.F. Chang's on the Plaza and then went to the Apple Store to play Angry Birds Rio HD on the new iPad 2's. :o)
On Sunday we spent time reading by the pool, napping and watching TV in the air-conditioning. At night we went to Jack Stack BBQ. Yum! After a stroll along the waterway I picked out a slice of chocolate coconut cream cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory. Double yum!
We drove back to pick up the kids on Monday. They apparently had a good time at Grandpa & Grandma's, because Emily's first words when we came in the door were, "Did you have fun in Kansas City? We had more fun than you did!" G&G took them paddle boating at Gray's Lake. Emily reportedly put up a big fuss for the first 15 minutes about wearing a life jacket, but then enjoyed steering in crazy directions while G&G did all the paddling.
They also spent time swimming in the pool, watering flowers and even visited Grandpa's office on Monday.
On the way home we also stopped to see the house Austin's sister and her husband recently bought. It was definitely a fun weekend for everyone and a tradition we hope to continue!

I know this is totally off topic but I can't believe how long Austin's hair is getting. Every time I see him it's longer.. and longer.. and longer. I'm just surprised to see him with long hair.. even though I believe it used to be really long.. back in college?
